BONUS SESSION: Strategic Pragmatism with ChatGPT

This session highlights the need to combine big-picture thinking with a more tempered approach when exploring the potential value of generative AI. We are currently sitting at the top of the Hype Cycle with generative AI as optimists and pessimists drive great speculation about the future impact of the technology. In this environment, it is important that serious risks are not overlooked in the haste to adopt, but neither should serious opportunities be overlooked in the name of manageable challenges. This session is intended as a guide to thinking through existing and evolving use cases of generative AI for finance professionals. It will help the delegates understand the capabilities of tools like ChatGPT, identify useful techniques, and help the delegates start thinking about ways in which generative AI might augment existing workflows. As the Head of Technology Research within the Policy and Insights team, Alistair Brisbourne leads on research that supports the ACCA’s global technology and skills agenda. Alistair joined the ACCA from BDO where he managed the Research and Commercial Insights team, and previously lectured at the University of London. He holds an MSc from University College Dublin and a Doctorate from Royal Holloway, University of London.
